This article is dedicated to the necessity of large-scale adoption of open-source artificial intelligence (AI).
As we all know, tech giants like Microsoft, OpenAI, Google and several other large companies, that monopolized the market, insist that for widespread use of open-source AI can cause irreparable harm due to the lack of proper security measures. However, this claim is absolutely unfounded. The existing open-source AIs adhere to the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, so, in the event when similar algorithms and scenarios are used within the open and closed source models, they run into practically identical limitations regarding ethical standards and conformance to legal regulations. This becomes evident when diving into the theory of how algorithms work in relation to legal, cultural, and generally accepted restrictions, ultimately leading us to the conclusion, that all these maneuvers with closed-source AI are nothing more than capital expansion and further monopolization of the AI market.
If it weren’t for the intricacies that billion-dollar companies skillfully juggle, we would notice that the current market for closed-source AI significantly slows down the its overall development.
The first issue with the current approach to AI is the industry’s narrow constrains, where you are confined to using only a set number of services. Without a doubt, the functionality of products like those from OPEN.AI is extensive and works excellently; they regularly improve algorithms and enhance user experience. However, its functionality lacks creativity, because the source code is completely closed off to the user, offering no opportunity to add something unique, irreplaceable, or useful.
The second issue is cost. Indisputably, intellectual property is of immeasurable value, but what price are you willing to pay for it? If you look at the average market price for using large language models (LLMs), it turns out it’s not cheap at all, making it difficult for a large number of people to even master AI. Open-source AI completely solves this problem and gives talented and driven individuals a path to create something greater than just a paid subscription to LLMs.
Nowadays, we are witnessing a typical market takeover by global giants. If smaller, but very promising open-source AI companies, such as Sentient, manage to change the current market trajectory, I believe we will see much more advanced products hit the market than what the current leaders and trendsetters currently offer. If we focus on Sentient and its unique Open, Monetizable and Loyal (OML) model, it becomes clear that this is not just another open-source company. It’s an entire ecosystem able to monetize unique developments and, if desired, sell them. This means that people don’t spend money on an LLM subscription, but create free, flexible modules to fit for their own unique purpose, unlocking their full potential and possibly profiting from them in the future. I consider this approach to be as democratic and fair as possible.
In conclusion, I would like to say: the world does not stand still. We are constantly evolving, learning, building new neural networks. So, I firmly believe, AI will be fully integrated into our lives as something commonplace, e.g. AI in medicine, engineering and etc. Widespread implementation of AI will eventually play a role at increasing the cost of living, albeit at the expense of the giants dominating the market, who will support these sectors and charge enormous sums for it. This is yet another reason to consider free AI like Sentient, with its potential for scaling and monetization.
